Today at about 11:00 in the afternoon, I went to Circuit City to buy "The Departed" on DVD. I've never seen the movie, but all my friends have been telling me to. Besides, it takes place here in Massachusetts so I got to watch it!
Anyways, I get to the checkout line and the moron cashier asks me for my drivers' license. I asked him why and he told me "Because this movie's rated R and I got to make sure you're not 16 or under". At that point I was about to punch him in the face, but instead I calmed myself down and gave it to him. He started at it for about a minute, held it up to the light, then gave it back to me as though it were fake. With my beard, I actually look somewhat Middle Eastern (my mother is Persian). I was considered asking the guy if he would also like to strip search me just in case I'm carrying a bomb. Here are the 6 main reasons I'm so pissed off:
1) I'm 21 years old.
2) In the last week, I've grow out my beard because I like the way I look better with it. (can a 16 year old even grow a mustache???)
3) This was 11:00am on a Wednesday (right in the middle of school)
4) It was about 10 degrees outside so how could I ever possibly get to this store without a car? (in Mass, you have to be at least 17 to get a license). This Circuit City is located miles away from any residential neighborhood on a state highway.
5) I had my credit card already out and visible for him to see. You have to be at least 18 to have a credit card the last time I checked.
6) There was a woman in front of me who was probably only in her late twenties buying a whole assortment of movies and he didn't ask for her license.
Basically, this moron's logic is that I'm a 16 year old kid with a full grown beard who has just skipped school to ride his bicycle in the 10 degree weather to use a stole credit card and license to buy The Departed. Is there something wrong with this picture?? It feels like I've been unfairly profiled. I'm thinking about returning the movie and buying it somewhere else because of the way I've been treated.
