New Battery And Starter, But No Power

by darb109, May 12, 2014

I just replaced the starter and the battery on my 2003 Toyota Corolla. When I attempted to start it, there was a pop, then it lost all electrical power. I have checked every fuse, and they are all good. Is there an in-line fuse somewhere going to the power distribution box?

Check all the starter and battery connections you worked on... Start by removing the battery to unbolt the ground to chassis wire underneath it. Sand off the rust and paint at contact point and eyelet, and reinstall. Check also your ground connections on top of tranny, and from driver's side engine head to fender. Make sure battery connections are clean and tight, then protect from corrosion with a smear of dielectric compound or grease.

The fusible link was blown which is in the engine fuse box, and in the course of taking the battery in and out, the terminal wire was loosened from the battery terminal. I replaced the link, tightened the clamp on the wire, and the car started. Thanks for the help.
