What is the chip in the plastic carrier on the back of the gauge cluster?

Speedometer / odometer "revolutions per mile" jumper for 185 vs 175/65r14 tires perhaps?

If it is what I think it is - it is called a coding plug. Information on that chip is what allows the ECM to talk to the cluster. Though I don't know how or what Toyota programs on the chip. Some cars, like BMW and Audi, actually have a number of functions associated with that chip - most for anti-theft, others for car-body functionality.

Anyway - can't really play with it without the Toyota handheld.
