2006 Cruise Control

By Cain, March 5, 2013 in Toyota Corolla, Chevy Prizm (1998-2008)

My car didn't come with cruise but now that I do a lot of highway driving I was looking into getting it installed. From what I've read, 9th gen corollas come with cruise installed from the factory and just the cruise control switch is left out if you didn't get it as an option. Can anyone confirm this to be true? The dealership said that one cannot simply add the switch to enable cruise but it wouldn't surprise me if they are lying to me or just don't know. I have a drive by wire throttle as mentioned in this thread on another forum: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/132-9th-generation-2003-2008/299894-diy-aftermarket-cruise-control-install.html

My other issue is finding the part for a decent price. The stealership wants $215 + taxes. I live in Canada and that seems to really limit my options as far as buying online. The Toyota part number is 84630-02041.

On the non-DBW systems, yes, you need more than just the switch gear - need the switch and cruise control actuation box to connect to the throttle body. But in your case, you only need the stalk switch - as the DBW system eliminated the need for the extra equipment.

Pricing will vary - might want to check out more online options. Some recommend the Cruise Control Store - http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com

They also posted some instruction here http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/Corrolamanual.pdf

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to give the AC Delco part a shot since I've found quite a few sites where people claim they got it working. Much cheaper than the OEM one so it's worth a try.

AC Delco part installed and works like a charm. Imported from Amazon.com for $50, which is less than a quarter of the price the stealership was going to charge me. Took me about an hour and a half to get it installed. Like the poster in the guide mentioned my idle rpm was lower (around 600) but after I took it for a test drive for about 20 minutes it was back to normal.

Sweet! Thanks for the follow-up on your install, that would be invaluable to others looking to install cruise control on their cars.
