2006 Toyota Corolla S, Stereo Size?

by interested, February 21, 2008

Hello.

I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla S, and i was wondering what is the size of the factory stereo?

It looks way bigger then DIN size which is what i was most familliar with when i used to install stereos a long time ago, in mostly european cars.

IS it double DIN?

I was wondering if a Pioneer AVIC-Z2 Navigation Double Din system would fit in place of the factory CD player?

According to the pioneer car fit guide, it only shows a single DIN as the size for a 2006 corrolla which somehow just dosent seem right to me.

any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to the forum. The 9th gen will physically take a double DIN headunit - there is enough room - just that it will look odd, because of the finish panel they used on the OEM system.

Fortunantely, there are several kit manufacturers that make new single and double DIN install kits for the 9th gen. Here are some example PDFs.

Just to make it look like a pro install. Note that I would try dry fitting it first - some people have gotten some kits that did quite fit, and ended up either returning them or modifiying them to fit.

There was a very good install of a DDIN Navi unit here from MSAGRO on a 2007 Corolla. Might want to do a search of that and see if that helps shed some light. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info fishexpo101.

i am glad to hear that there is a possibility that it might fit in my car.

Unfortunately i cant do a dry fit with the pioneer avic-z2 as i have not yet bought it.

Its a pricey unit so i dont want to end up buying it and find out i have to return it because it did not fit.

I really appreciate the links you posted ( BTW the second link is exactly like the first,, you should have had a 95 instead of 99 for the double DIN pdf.. i figured it out with google.)

I also searched the MSAGRO like you suggested and the pictures he posted did give me a good idea of what to expect. and in my opinion it does look pretty good.. might even look better in my car as i have a black interior thus matching the unit a little better default_wink

When i finally do get around to buying and installing the pioneer system ill be back with some images.

It might be awhile since its freezing cold outside here in the canadian winters, and my garage is only partially heated.

if you know of any other links to dissasembly/ assembly instructions for electrical components on a corolla that might be of use, feel free to pass them on.

Once again thanks for the info.

Well i have yet to buy a double din replacement deck, or install one.

I live in Canada, in Ontario, and we have been getting some record snow falls up here, whereby our cars have all been covered in snow, and i spent most of yesterday afternoon digging them out and clearing my driveway. default_tongue

So it will be some time before spring still arrives and i get the time to start this project.

At the same time i have decided to avoid the Pioneer AVIC Z2, due to some shortcomings i have read about it, and instead ill wait for the soon to be released Kenwood DNX8120 Double DIN navigation unit.

So ill also have to wait for the deck to be released before i start this project.

once i do ill post some pics. default_wink
