When Is It Time For A New Battery

by c2105026, October 16, 2004

hi, i have a '00 'rolla with 50,000km on the clock. In february the car shall be 5 years old. Before we bought it in august 2002, the battery was changed (is not a genuine toyota battery). with the engine switched off, the lights dim noticeably, and a hydrometer test has found that the battery electrolyte is carrying insufficient charge.

what do i do? thanks.

Replace it with a new battery, and get a maintenance free battery so you do not have to worry about the battery.

c, I agree with Mark. Replace it with a maintenence-free battery. The genuine Toyota batteries really do better and last longer than anything I've tried, but I hear Interstate batteries are pretty good, too. Dunno if you have those in Oz.

ok, i shall replace the battery - either 'century' brand, or NRMA brand, or genuine toyota (i'll get prices today).

do i need to take any precautions when i change the battery so that i do not set off the airbag?
