Winter Wheels For Xrs

Guest memphis

I just got a corolla xrs with P195/55R16, summer tires. With winter approaching I'd like to know if I can go down to 15" wheels and what appropriate tire size?

Other '03 and newer Rollas (CE, LE, etc.) come with 15" steelies stock, so 15"s should be no problem. A good place to look is

Go to the local dealership, and leave a celica sitting on blocks.

A 205-60x15 should work just fine, or a 195-65x15.

This is my first post on this forum. I picked up my Black 2005 XRS about 2 weeks ago...and what a nice car! My question is similar regarding winter tires, but I have some Yokohoms winter tires on steel 15" rims that I put on my previous 1993 Celica. I calculated the difference in size from the stock tire size to the winter tires P205-55R15, and their is not much difference. Correct me if I am wrong, but I assume the bolt pattern is 5x100, so I think they will fit? I am also concerned about brake caliper clearance on the front brakes? Does the XRS have larger calipers than the other 2005 Corolla models with 15" rims?

You should be able to go to a 15" wheel size and be OK. As far as I know, the Celicas and 2003+ Corollas have the same bolt pattern and backspacing. Both 185/65-15 and 195/60-15 would work, clearance-wise.

The OEM 15" 5x100 steelies on the other similar Toyotas are:

2005 Corolla CE - 185/65-15

2005 Corolla LE/S - 195/65-15

2005 Matrix XR - 195/65-15

2005 Celica GT - 195/60-15

The 195/65-15 are a bit taller - so your speedo would read low. You can get good snow tires in the 185/65R15 size - not as many in the 195/60R15 size. To be on the safe side - you can use something like TireRack to pick a package for you - they will make sure that it will fit and that it has the proper backspacing.

I bought the rims and wheels from Toyota where I took my Celica for service. So when I take my XRS in for its first scheduled service I have them mount one of the wheels and see if clearance is an issue. I calculated the speed difference (from the miata tire size calculator site) and at when my speedo reads 100kmh I would be actually going like 98kmh...not a big deal, and certainly safer in the winte months. Last year I got addicted to my winter tires for the added safety, and traction.
