Engine Management

Guest Quail Squasher

Hi all, recently purchased an 87 twin cam with a 20v conversion and i am interested in aftermarket engine management equipment that does not cost a fortune. I have heard the Apexi Safc is a cost-effective upgrade for many cars, however, im not sure how suitable this is for the 4ag-20v engine. If anyone has had any experience in this area, please share your thoughts! default_smile

Unless you do a turbo or so other type of forced induction - the APEXi SAFC is kind of overkill. The 4A-GE 20v is a great start - kind of over-rated HP wise, but has much potential. Unless you have issues with the current ECM or run some weird injectors - a piggyback fuel computer like the APEXi will generally not increase your performance over the exisiting unit. But if you go forced induction later - then you definitely want to check it out - programmable fuel curve can save your engine from running too lean.
