Are drilled/slotted rotors directional? If they are, do the slots angle forward (towards the front of the car) or backward? I've seen them installed both ways and it makes me wonder if it's important.

They are directional - but it depends on the pattern of vents below the face of the rotor. You can have straight full length vanes, staggered vanes, pillar-style and curved vanes - size of the rotor and if it is a two piece deal will also influence the direction of the slots/holes/dimples on the rotor.
