Shifting An Auto

by induction1, August 18, 2004

i used to have an old car which had a tranny problem. it was an auto, but everytime it shifted it would give a rough kick in every gear. i got used to taking my foot off the pedal just as the car was about to shift so it wouldn't kick. if i were to do this with my corolla (with what may potentially be rougher shifts during certain driving conditions) would it save any appreciable wear on the auto trans? i know....it's very efficient, reliable, and a mostly pointless endeavor, but any ideas?

Nope. Wouldn't necessarily reduce any wear on the tranny - sometimes lifting off the gas will confuse the computer and it may shift differently. Probably won't do it in the Corolla - but on some cars - lifting will cause the car to hold that gear.
