Last Weird 1998 Corolla Noise Found

The last rattle noise under load is the serpantine tensioner pulley.....

Good deal.

Ahh, must be good to have some peace and quiet at last default_biggrin

Now your Corolla ride is probably quieter than many Big 3 luxury cars. default_smile

Alas, t's my daughter's car and I'm her free of charge mechanic that also has to pay for parts....

Did you replace a whole assambley?

Bikeman982

Does it require replacement or just some type of lubrication. Maybe you can oil the shaft it rotates on and that will quiet it down?

The pulley / bearing piece is replacable and not too expensive.

Let us know if replacing it eliminates the noise.

It eliminated "a" noise, but unfortunately, not the last noise...

A little vibration noise in drive, car held stopped with brakes. The engine rocks forward a bit and something is contacting. Not bad and not consistent.

Sounds like a heat shield or motor/trans mount issue. Could also be your exhaust pipe or similar touching the firewall or bottom of the car. Might help to do this test with someone looking at different areas to see where contact is made. You could also take a peek once every cools down and look for any fresh marks on metal or anything obviously dented or pinged on.

Check motor mounts for wear.
