I'm posting this for my non-Internet capable sister. She's the owner of a 92 Corolla Toyota 4-dr and has been having a problem with the left tail light. The left brake and tail light both work seperately, but if she has the tail light on and then applies the brake, they both go out.

Problem started about two weeks ago. Any ideas on how to chase this one down?

Sounds like a bad connection to the bulb or a bad bulb. Thing to do is to pull the bulbs and check for corrosion on the terminals and in the socket. Check the condition of the wires - make sure that the insulation around the wire hasn't worn off and shorted somewhere on the chAssis. Check the bulb - sometimes the bulb will light and still be bad - especially the ones with dual filaments. If they were the original ones - I'd replace them and see what happens - bulbs are cheap and you will already have the thing apart to troubleshoot.

Good Luck.
