My '93 corolla (1.8) has an exhaust leak, i think. When I start it, no matter when, its very loud near the engine until the car gets warm, then it seems to go away. Could it be gaskets or seals?? like the manifold gasket?? Is cracked manifold a common problem with this model at about 100k?

Sounds like a leak. Could be the donut gasket between the downpipe and exhaust manifold or bad exhaust manifold gasket. The 7th generation Corollas (1993-1997) had a reputation for craked exhaust manifolds. Might have to pull the heat shield off and see if there are any dark spots or discolorations (leaking). I'd get it pressure tested to be sure it is an exhauset leak - could be resonance in the intake manifold or emissions related issue.
