Swirl, Scratch Marks

Guest plmaramba

I applied too much pressure while using rubbing compound on my front hood, causing round "swirl" marks all over. I guess I might have scratched the clear-coat finish, what shall I do to bring back the previous finish, I hope I don't need a re-spray.

Also, how do you remove water marks on the windshield..

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Ouch, rubbing compound.

Well it depends - did you just repaint your car and needed to use some thing as abrasive as rubbing compound to get some overspray or orangepeel buffed out?

Chances are that if you can see the swirl marks and used an electric polisher for the compound - you probably removed too much material and you are probably going to have to respray the clearcoat.

Even if the scratches are very light - the clear coat may be too thin to protect the car's finish.

You can use something like Rain-X on the windshield - helps with water marks and really does work to repel water. Some people have had success with plain white vinegar and some with chrome polish.

Good Luck.
