2004 Corolla Tuneup?

First, just like to thank everyone for contributing to this forum.

I've leaned quite a bit by reading.

I'm about to do a tune up on my 2004 Corola (Auto) with 84000 kms.

My questions are as follows:

I'm intetested in doing a tuneup on it.

What should I do?

Plugs? Wires? Cap and rotor?

Should I stick to OEM parts or can I find what I need at Canadian Tire.

What plugs and wires would you recommend?

The best answers are in your glovebox, where the owner's manual is. Your dealer should also have given you a maintenence guide, tho sometimes they don't, since Toyota requires far less maintenence than a dealer would recommend. OEM parts are always best for your Toyota. You shouldn't need a tuneup per se. Your iridium plugs are good for over 100k. Things you should do if you haven't already include: flush and fill radiator, new air filter, AT tranny service.

I do have the maintenance schedule from the dealer.

It has 192 000 kms to replace plugs?

I am almost certain the plugs will last that long, but what bothers me about that schedule is that they may seize. Plenty of people on the board have changed them early for that very reason. Oh, and a belated welcome to Corolland!

I've decided to go ahead with the tuneup.

I would go with the recommended tune up procedure for your car that is usually located in the owner's manual. There are specified time and mileage intervals recommended. Normally there is a safety margin and they are replaced prior to them normally wearing out. You can't loose by going with genuine Toyota parts, although they may be a little more expensive than some aftermarket items. Don't do anything to void your warranty, or you may have trouble making any claim later. Hope this helps.

you are worried about wrong parts.

How are your fluids/filters?

Have you changed oil, coolant, ATF, or brake fluid lately?

Unlike the rotor that isn't there, or iridium plugs good for 192,000 km, fluids and filters are known to go bad.
