  1. My 2005 has 100k on it. was thinking of changing the coolant tomorrow. The stuff in it is yellowish. I've had it since new. Isn't it supposed to be red or pink? DO i have to buy toyota stuff or is there another brand that will work. the stuff in it looks like prestone.
  2. I'm about to do this again--it's been a long time so i can't remember if i have to put new washers on every time. Do I? If so, can i get another kind of washer at the auto parts store. what is on there looks like a solid aluminum washer and i don't know if they carry them. I'm at 100k no and the only problem i've had with this car is a corroded brake piston in the front causing the brake to stick. Not a biggie, but that's the only problem I've had. Ben

  4. Fish-- Wil the zinc in the anti-seze help? i think it would does act as a sacrificial material, just las it would in zinc paint. The issue i have with por-15 is that to do it right, i'd have to get the surface clean. Thanks Ben
  5. i have some areas that are starting to rust--such as the door seams. to fix it "right" would take more time than i have now--especially since i previously sprayed a wax rust preventer whch would have to be removed (before sanding converting, painting, etc.). I had an idea to put some anti-seize grease there as a quick fix to keep the rust from getting worse. This grease has zinc in it. I also have some "aluminumized" marine grease--but its very old--as in decades. What do you think?
  6. i have a two amp charger i could use as well
  7. 2005 corolla, oem delco battery (550 cca). Very cold out. Battery had no charge and may be frozen. Brought it inside to thaw. How long to charge using a 1 amp trickle charger? My smart charger isn't smart (it never worked--it always says the battery is full) Could not calculate because i could not find the battery capacity anywhere. Also, will my extended toyota "platinum" warranty cover the battery in case it's bad? thanks
  8. I've never changed the coolant on my '05 with 60k miles. I guess I should..... So, I should use the toyota stuff?
  9. how do you kow if they are lug-centric?
  10. I bought gear oils from the local hardware store. it looks as if it had been sitting ion the shelf for a long time. When I poured it in, I noticed flake-like particles. I figure some of the additives must have collected on the bottom. Anything to worry about?
  11. Someone in my neighborhood is selling 02 beetle steel rims with good Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q tires (195/65/15). The bolt pattern and backspacing are compatible, but the center bore in the vw rims is larger (57.1 as opposed to 54.1). No one seems to carry ring adapters in this size. the local tire store told me it you don't need them on steel wheels. What do you think? I could use some good cheap winter tires. -Ben
  12. i have a pdf which shows an exploded view of the transmission, and there is a magnet--although i don't know if it is accessible. i bought amsoil. Local hardware store has it fro 9 bucks a quart. i bought three quarts, not realizing i only needed two. so far I've had zero problems with my car. It's at 60k. thanks, Ben
  13. thanks I had guessed right. The tips are very helpful, too. is there a magnet on the end of the drain plug or elsewhere?
  14. can someone pint me to a link for above? I think i found the drain plug and filler plug, but want to make sure.
  15. fish was saying he preferred aftermarket wheels, not the opposite Does anyone know the weights of corolla wheels and prius wheels? -Ben
