toasterburn 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2014 I recently bought a 2000 Prizm and I love almost everything about it. The one thing that bugs me though are the cheap door panels. The cloth inserts on mine are falling off. Had the dealership glue one back on for me, and the next day it's falling off again. They just aren't designed well. Is there an alternative out there? Maybe an aftermarket hard-plastic door panel that would fit? Or a better made panel from a different model? Or could an upholsterer build me one? I don't want to go into debt over it, but if I could fix this one cosmetic thing, it would greatly enhance the car's vibe.
fishexpo101 13 Report post Posted July 27, 2014 Haven't seen an aftermarket panel for that application - but I'm sure there are lots of custom shops that can do pretty much anything you want, given enough time and money. The OEM setup is OK until the fabric part comes off - just like the headliner - once that happens, it will never look right again. I've seen owner wrap different material around the fabric insert to replace the OEM cloth pattern. In your case, you could do that and then use something a little more permanent than glue to hold the revised panel back on. Likely have to pull the inner door panel off and use short screws or similar to hold onto that panel.

I'm a little surprised you speak of the door panels. I always thought it was the door HANDLES that were weak.
Deleones 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 If the inserts aren't covering anything functional, try stronger glue!
