Replacing The Rear Struts On A 1999 Corolla

Guest compajd

Has anybody ever replaced struts on a 1999 Corolla. If you have all tips and instructions will be greatly appreciated. I will be tackling this project this weekend and needed some input on how to do this and where to start. Thanks in advanced.

There are several threads on this already on the forum - some are pretty in depth, those should help.

Other than having the right equipment - need to buy or rent a spring compressor, torque wrench is a must - can't really "guess" the torque on the bolts, too much and they will stretch and break, too little and the bolt will work loose. The rear struts are going to be the toughest to tackle. Not only will you have to deal with possible corrosion on the endlinks, the brakes will have to be either disconnected or the brake line tab will have to be cut with a dremel or cutoff tool. Either way, be ready to bleed the brakes, just in case. Alignment should not be an issue - 8th gen Corolla alignments will not change as long as you don't turn the wheel around too much or try to modify the suspension too much (i.e., get some fairly significant lower springs or switch to a coilover setup).
