Well my wife's bag was stolen on the Metro this morning; wallet, keys, cell, blackberry.... So some dirtbag has our address, license plate, keys to the house, and Corolla. To top it off, our house is across the street from a Metro station, so they could ride the metro to steal the car.

I rekeyed the house this morning, and bought a new Club for the Corolla. But I should get it rekeyed.

My friend has an auto parts store. He said to replace the ignition and two doors is about $150, but he can't get the trunk? I have not called any local shops, dealer, or auto locksmiths for estimates. Any advice? I have a Toyota factory service manual. I have not had a chance to look at it, but I should be able to do this myself. Is there any place online I could buy a ignition/lock set or kit to rekey? Thanks.

I haven't seen rekeying kits or replacement pins for modern automotive apps online - mostly for commercial and residential homes. I have seen ones for certain European vehicles (i.e. Porsche) and older domestic muscle cars - but nothing for a newer import.

Your're right, if you are halfway mechanically inclined, you shouldn't have any problems rekeying the locks youself. But getting those discs inside might be tough. As for hte trunk lock - I'm pretty sure you can use the same cylinder as the door locks, as you don't need the whole lock, just the cylinder portion.

If you know a locksmith, bring the lock cylinders to them and they should be able to rekey the lock for a minimal cost. Same thing happend to me a few years ago, fortunantely it was just the house (but it sucked that I just replaced all the locks with brand new ones just 3 weeks before that). Brought in all the locks - locksmith charged my $10 per lock to rekey them and threw in keys for free.

I brought some tumblers to a local locksmith from a project car and was charged $42 for two sets of keys.

I changed them out myself. You might be able to replace your locks yourself.

I've found the parts on ebay: matching ignition, 2 doors, trunk, keys are $52 shipped.

The cheapest local shop is $50 for the ignition, $25 per door/trunk to rekey. So $125 if I pull the cylinders and reinstall. They want 150 ignition + 35 door/trunk, or $255 total for them to pull, rekey, reinstall.

Has anyone pulled the ignition cylider w/ key?

It looks like I remove the column trim, put the key in, move it to the on position, push the release pin, cylinder comes out with key.

Well I got the parts on ebay, $65 with overnight shipping. Only issue is the new ignition face is not as large as the old. It looks like a piece of trim is missing around the ignition. I wonder if the 2001s are different, or I ended up with a camry ignition.

It took about 2 hours to do everything.

Ignition: Disconnect the battery negative. Remove the two small covers on the side of the airbag/horn assembly. Back out the two torx holding the airbag. Swing out, unplug and remove the airbag/horn (always set the airbag business side up when out). Disconnect the cruise control plug. Mark the steering wheel shaft. Unbolt and remove the steering wheel. Remove the lower steering column cover. Insert the old key, turn ignition to ACC, push release pin (underneath), slide out the ignition. Install in reverse order.

The trunk and doors are easy. Remove trim, clips, bolts, drop in, reassemble. I was able to remove the door locks without completly removing the handles. The 2nd door goes much faster. After seeing the paper cones, now I'm itching to replace the front speakers with something better.

Hmm, good question about the ignition face - it depends on who made the lock cylinder. I have seen two sizes - one was about 1/8" to 1/16" larger around than the other. That was an ACDelco LC - the newer one was larger of the two. But I've seen ones on eBay from a different vendor that had a different manufacturer that had them the other way around?? Don't know.

Toyota gave me a part number of 69005-1E120. The ebay seller used 69005-1E140. No Toyota markings on the bag, parts, or keys. Everything works fine, so I'm happy.

If your ignition face is smaller, a lighted ring is supposed to go over it and fill the gap. It's a feature of the LE trim, and I love it. If you're interested I'll investigate the wiring involved later.

Do you have the store on ebay from who you bought the 2000 Toyota Corolla CE Lock Set for your Black 2000 Corolla?

I am planning to buy it for my 2001 Toyota Corolla CE. However, they listed as to be compatible with the 1998-2002 Toyota Corollas and specified the Toyota reference part number as to be the 69005-1E140. But according to the Toyota Genuine Parts my part number shall be the 69005-1E120. I just entered the Part 69005-1E140 to my VIN number and the system said that the part is not compatible with my corolla. However, If yours worked fine it shall work fine for mine...The difference in diameter could be due to a ring cover some of them have around the main ignition cylinder...or may be the light ring as in my 2004 Camry LE... as mentioned by burrin...Thanks to all...

Ok...My 2001 Toyota Corolla is using a Autozone SmartLock CL63100...sorry... the 69005-1E120 has the 69057-12430 Ignition Lock which is a 36.98mm (1.456in) in Diameter and the 6005-1E140 has the 69057-14340 Ignition Lock which has a diameter of about 32.19mm (1.3in) at the front...All others are equal part numbers....However, they are both about 36.98mm (1.456in) over all body diameter...Apparently this is the 69057-12340 is an old design to allow a rubber ring around it or a lighting ring for the LE model as I have in my 2004 Toyota Camry LE...

So the difference in diameter is around 4mm (0.157in) which lead to a 2mm (0.078in) of space around the Ignition Lock... This has been said, means that I could use the Ignition Lock cylinder 69057-12340 which is smaller at the front, to any Toyota Corolla Model from 1997 to 2001,,,,the only thing is that there will be a small gap space of about 5/64" or 2mm...That is less than 1/8"....

So I can use it....for 2001 Toyota Corolla CE which shall require the 69057-12430, a bigger in diameter at the tip...

That will be ok for me...Right Now I have a replacement from SmartLock Autozone CL63100 and Toyota OEM Door and Trunk Locks...Two separated key sets and the door locks are starting to getting jam...I need a full set with on one master key set for all...

The CL63100 (69057-12430) looks like they inserted or pressed a metal cap to cover the small space that had the 69057-12340,,or to fill the space of the steering wheel cover.....

Kit 69005-1E120 1997-2001 Has the following components assuming you do not have the TDS (Theif Deterrent System);

1. 69057-12430 Ignition Lock (different than 69005-1E140, Dia 37mm, Body Dia 37mm)

2. 69051-12490 Door Lock RH (same as 69005-1E140)

3. 69052-12490 Door Lock LH (same as 69005-1E140)

4. 69055-1A280 Trunk Lock (same as 69005-1E140)

Kit 69005-1E140 1997 to 2000 Shall have

1. 69057-12340 Ignition Lock ( different tha 69005-1E120, Dia. 33mm, Body Dia 37mm)

2. 69051-12490 Door Lock RH (same as 69005-1E120)

3. 69052-12490 Door Lock LH (same as 69005-1E120)

4. 69055-1A280 Trunk Lock (same as 69005-1E120)

If you have TDS then you shall look for the following Part numbers from 1997-2001...It is not Specified if the 69005-1E120 will fit vehicles with TDS....So you will have to ensure this kit is modified specifically for Corollas with TDS....

1. 69057-12430 Ignition Lock (same as 69005-1E120, Dia. 37mm, Body Dia 37mm)

2. 69051-12500 Door Lock RH (Different than 69005-1E120)

3. 69052-12500 Door Lock LH (Different than 69005-1E120)

4. 69055-1A290 Trunk Lock (Different than 69005-1E120)

For anyone interested to know..I ordered the 1998-2002 Toyota Corolla Lock full Set..Ignition, LH Door, RH Door and trunk with 2ea keys...for about $50 with shipping....Fast and nice support...Shipping too...According to Toyota, I shall buy the set with the Part No. 69005-1E120...

This set I bought from artmotoIn (Toyota 69005-1E140 or replacement 8112Z-01) is not for my car, however, it is almost exactly the same as the 69005-1E120, but the ignition sw cylinder. The ignition SW cylinder is exactly the same body dimension that mine, it fitted great in the ignition sw sleeve. however it is about 1/4" in Diameter less in the upper portion. So the steering wheel will have about 1/8" gap around the sw, against the steering wheel cover.....I just Added a 1/8" in thickness black O-ring around the sw top part...this serves as a gap fill ring cover and looks good....Everything looks and fit good, and works like a charm....

I used 2ea. O-rings as a ring gap cover...R22 (217)...1-3/16"ID X 1-7/16"OD x 1/8" cross.....I think if you can find a 3/16" Cross sectional will fit much better...or try both to see which one fit better for you...I just had the 1/8" cross....
