Pcv Valve Torque Value

by sail114, August 24, 2008

I just picked up a new PCV valve for my '06 CE, and plan on installing it today. Since the car only has 42k on it, and I haven't done any work besides new tranny fluid (last weekend) and regular oil changes, I have yet to buy a service manual for it. Does anyone on here quickly know the proper torque value for the PCV valve, or could possibly look in their haynes/chilton manual for it?

Much thanks in advance!

~Chris

I tightened mine on slow and easy with a small 1/4" socket wrench and did just fine. It was no more than 35lbs applied I guess but I have no idea what the limit is. I'll guess around 50lbs.

The ones on my cars (1993-1997) are just pressed in.

50lbs is probably too much. Just make sure it's snug, but don't over tighten it.

Torque specs are important, but other bolts are more important then other. Mechanics don't break out a torque wrench for a lot of basic stuff.

Things that should be dead on are things like flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, hub nuts, etc. I'm pretty picky about lug nuts bolts myself. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but I usually don't bother breaking out the torque wrench.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm very picky about lug nuts myself, and will even loosen and retighten after a tire shop works on 'em (they usually over-tighten by 50-60lbs).

I have two torque wrenches, but seldom use them.

I always tighten bolts to an amount that "feels" right.

I very seldom (almost never - well, maybe once) break them.

I did snap lots of bolts off a car from New Jersey (it was very rusted), but that was trying to take them out.

I hate lug nuts tightened by repair shops - usually they are way too tight.
