I got hit by a drunk driver a couple years ago, on the way home from starbucks with two full lattes in the car. Picture a tidal wave made of hot soy milk. The detailers took the system apart twice to clean it, but it just hasn't been the same since.

I'd like to get a new model, something with HD radio or Satellite ready, but the deck is twice as tall as most normal systems. Anyone know where I can look for a system that will fit?

Thanks in advance!

They will tell you what will fit and can give you an adapter that will make any radio fit. They will also give you all the needed cables and wires plus all the instructions for installing.

Thanks. I checked the website out, but unfortunately they haven't researched that part of my car yet. I have no idea what that means, but I'll keep checking.

Thanks again!

Crutchfield is one of the greatest car audio sites out there, but it's really hard to research every single car out there for what size of speakers, and Head unit size it carries.

Most car stereos come with the familiar-sized "Iso-DIN" receivers with a 2" tall opening, but trucks/vans/SUVs, and receivers with CD changers have the 4" tall "Double-DIN" sized receivers. Go to your local car audio shop and they'll help you outfit a new one, or you could do what I would do, and buy one off Crutchfield or some cheaper site online and install it yourself.

I don't know what year/generation corolla you have is, so I can't help you determine what you can do, but if you could take a picture of it, i'd be glad to help.

Some Advice: Next time your car is damaged, make the driver at fault's insurance pay for repairing your entire car properly. I don't know any detailer stupid enought to think that they could take apart a CD player that had been soaked in liquid and do anything to make it work perfectly again. They should of told the insurance company it needed replaced.

Now, we need to know a couple of things about your car. What year is it and what trim level is it (CE, S, LE, VE, DX)?

I personally recommend Kenwood recievers, Alpines are also nice. Look for something Double DIN sized. Your local car audio shop is probably the best place to go if you choose to let a professional install the system. Places like Best Buy and Circuit City gaurantee their installs, but I have found their installs to be generally poor compared to the installs done at most independant shops and the gaurantee means nothing if you are constantly having to envoke it to get your system fixed.

Sika,

sorry to hear of your ordeal. next time, if anybody tried to take apart the radio (or any of the electronics), take it to another shop. i worked for an electronics company and only a few our technicians would attempt what your detailer seemed to have tried to do.

If they screw up enough, it could cause a short & an eletrical fire.

With that being said,

as others have written, sounds like you have a 2DIN radio.

Its a standard size. no problems.

If you find a 1DIN radio that you like, any car audio place should have a kit to make it fit. Crutchfield will prob offer it for free. Car audio places may charge you $15-25 for "parts".

Having worked for a car audio maker, I do not recommend in-dash 6disc changers. Too many things can go wrong.

I would recomend looking for single CD with USB aux input jack. You can listen to your mp3 player or CD that way.

With all the ipods, mp3 players, and flash drives out there, there are several companies that are actually offering car radios without a CD deck. (cost savings?)

I am kinda old school, so I prefer to have a CD/DVD player though

good luck

tdk.

here is wire harness and the kit you need to install any single DIN headunit in your corolla.

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...761&tp=2977 wire harness.

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...48B&tp=3121 DIN INSTALL KIT

best bet is to ebay them. you will definately get cheaper pricing.

here is the ebay link. .... SAME ITEM. made by famous brand scosche for the wire harness. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...465786&rd=1

single din INSTALL KIT

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=005

and then if you dont want to do the install. take it down to local stereo shop. and they will charge ballpark less then $30-50 dollars. you would need to choose the speakers you want. and the headunit you want since that depend on budget, what you would like in it, etc.
