Replacing 2003 Grille With 2006 Style.

by MSAGRO, December 10, 2007

I am gonna replace my old 2003 grille with a newer and in my opinion better looking grille off a 2006: https://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa53/MS.../2003grille.jpg

My question is the 'tabs' on the lower part of the unit that attaches the grille to the upper bumper assembly.

I know on the top of the grille you unscrew the 'wingtabs' left and right and pop out the center pin unit.

But the 3 tabs below what do you do? Does the whole grill just pull out or is there a kinda toggle motion to release them?

Please let me know

Most of the DIY that I've run across on the 9th gen Corolla (2003-2008) have them pull the bottom-most clips from the bumper cover by gently prying on them with a flat bladed screwdriver. They should come loose pretty easily at that point.

Thanks fish, I knew I could rely on you. I will give that a try and also look in back of the newer grille to see how that works. default_tongue

Here is a link to something that you could do to the new grill - some have color matched the trim around the grill to match the car. Looks sharp - lot less "chromie" than the OEM piece.

Thanks fish, looks like a great site for me. Some of those cars on there make mine look (to quote Moe) "A pile of puke"

Looks like a great resource for my 9th gen Corolla.

I saw some of the custom 'shark mouth' grilles, just too 'fast and furious' for my tastes. But I do like the paint around the chrome of the stock Corolla, the XRS did that and I tried to find one at a dealer but 2 dealers said they needed the vin# to get a replacement. I was gonna go on eBay and snag a vin number on an XRS for sale and then realized that I was getting a bit anal on pimpin' my ride, so I'll just stick to the stock grille for now.

Thanks again for all your help.
