I have a passport 8500 X50 in red.
It has saved me from many a radar trap.
I like how it sounds alerts on the bands the county sheriffs use when I'm so far away that I have to drive five or six minutes to actually see the sheriffs car.
It has a lot of customizable features and you can turn bands of Radar on and off.
I drive around with all bands on, including laser and POP.

In some states Radar detectives are illegal.
I am a firm believer in Passport Escort (I would love a V1, but dont have the budget).
After the stupid cop OPP confistacted my 7500, I upgraded to a 8500 X50 blue. I also got a 8500 red for the wife's car.
Both are hard wired and work awsome.
(rolla project also has a har-wired red 8500).
I have used several other brands in teh past, but i am now loyal to Passport.
tdk.
Radar detectors are illegal in NSW, and have been since c.1991
If a cop sees one in your car, you are liable for a fine of about $1000 and you lose 9 points off your licence (full licences only 12)

You would be violating the law if you had one.

That's why I love America. Our personal freedoms are practically endless.
When states (other than VA) have tried to criminalize owning radar detectors, the Courts in those states have sided with the detector owners.
Numerous State Courts have written statements like, "If government seeks to use clandestine and furtive methods to monitor citizen actions, it can ill afford to complain should the citizen insist on a method to effect his right to know he is under such surveillance."
There is nothing sweeter than our legal system doing what it was designed to do, protecting our rights.

I feel for you tdk, these things, together with nitrous, are banned in Ontario.
How do I wire one in discreetly?
Never had a Radar Detector, just keep my eyes peeled. I dont do much hardcore speeding anyway, in my Rolla.
Now, in the Probe, I probably should have had one. But ive only had one speeding ticket in the near 4 years ive been driving, so. . . I havent done too bad.

Consider yourself lucky. Now, in the Probe, I probably should have had one. But ive only had one speeding ticket in the near 4 years ive been driving, so. . . I havent done too bad.
Radar detectors have to be mounted so they can receive radar signals. That is usually up on the dash. That makes them very visible to the police. Tough to hide in a state (or country) where they are illegal.
