What is a throttle body with drive by wire.

Is electric throttle body control the same as drive by wire.

Also what is the difference between the throttle body with the drive by wire and the one with the throttle control arm.

Thanks.

Need to separate those terms. Throttle body and DBW are two separate components, but they can be used together.

DBW is just as it sounds, mechanical inputs controls are converted into an electronic signals, picked up by the PCM, then directed to a servo to actuate whatever device it is hooked to, like a throttle body. Takes the mechanical "linkage" between the driver and the device and replaces it with a piece of technology. Previously - you actually had a cable run from the pedal assembly to a lever arm or cam on the throttle body.

Why go electric? This is an integral part of the newer vehicle stability control system. Since the computer directs the servo - it can limit the amount of throttle opening in the event of a loss of traction. Car starts to slide, it brakes the appropriate wheels while cutting power to bring the car back in line. Couldn't do that with a cabled throttle body very effectively.

Is DBW and electric throttle control the same thing.

Also on the 05 corolla is this the first time they are using DBW. What was it called what they used on previous generation corollas.

Thanks.

Sometimes they are used interchangeably - but not necessarily the same thing - one refers to whole the system, while the other focuses on one aspect of the system. DBW was first used on the Corolla in the 2005 model year. Previously, it was just a cable actuated throttle body.

What is electronic throttle control system. Some things I read say DBW and ECTS are same thing.

With electronic throttle control system why was car accelerating for know reason. Was it problems with computer program.

I am just trying to understand ECTS and acceleration problem how they relate.

Be easier to just look those up those terms online - there is way too much information on those particular topics to post here. As far as SUA and DBW/ECTS - that is still up for debate. Toyota was cleared by forensics on that particular issue - end result, driver error.

Not to beat a dead horse just wanted to know if DBW AND ETCS WAS THE SAME.

FRANK.

Already told you in the previous post:
