1989 Corolla With Sporadic Miss And 31 And 41 Codes

By Jethro, May 5, 2014 in Pre-1997 Toyota Corolla and Geo Prizm

Hello,

I have a 89 dx corolla with a carborated 4 cylinder. The car only has 55,000 miles on it. Lately it has been missing here and there at all rpm ranges. I read the codes and 31 and 41 came up. I undid the connection to the carb and carb base and cleaned it with electrical cleaner and it seem to clear up for a day and then the miss came back. sometimes it chugs so hard the engine light stays on.

Any sugjestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff

My book says the 3 1 pulses on the dash is air flow meter signal and a 4 1 pulses is throttle position signal. I looked a little further because I could not find a throttle position sensor and the book says I Have a "Throttle Position switch"? Looks like it might be a solinoid on the carb?

Jeff

I replaced the Throttle Position Switch and that solved my problem.

Thanks

Jeff
