1998 Corolla Transaxle

Guest asp4352

Can anyone tell me where I can find a picture/drawing of a transaxle for a 1998 Corolla? How complicated is it to replace one? Will a Chilton book help me on this?

Swapping a transaxle - a Chilton or Haynes manual should have enough detail to attack this sort of job. Repairing one - you'll need a factory service manual for that - as there is a whole service manual dedicated to the transaxle alone. Haynes manual has some illustrations that look identical to the ones in my FSM - also tends to put more illustrations compared to Chiltons. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Couple that with the text in the Chiltons manual - should be able to pull off a swap.

As for the swap itself - not too complicated - but it is fairly labor intensive. There are some decent write ups in this forum - the process is very similar between the generations, so you should be able find quite a few posts on this swap.
