Gas Hand Stuck At Full

2001 Corolla S Automatic 4Dr 249,000 miles

My fuel gauge hand is stuck on full...however when it gets close to empty ..the warning light still comes on.

I may be interested in selling my car soon and would like to get this problem fixed before trying to sell. Does anyone know what may

be the cause of this and what I should tell my mechanic when I take it? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried tapping the gauge and see if it is just stuck? Does the needle move at all - car running or car off?

Could be a bad sender unit, that is located inside the gas tank - you'll need to pull the rear seats out to get access to the pump assembly.

Try running a bottle of Techron concentrate in your gas before you take it to the mechanic.
