1998 Le With Side Air Bags

by Bodhisattva, November 22, 2004

Has anyone removed the front door panels that are equipped with the side air bags? If so, is there a procedure for disabling the airbags prior to removing the panels, or is it even necessary? The power lock actuator is weak, and I may have to replace it if I can't rectify the problem by using a spray lube.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I thought that side airbags are mounted into seats. That is way they a put a little tag and do not want you to put seat covers on them.

Am I wrong?

Wifey says they are in the door panels, per the salesman when she bought it. This bears further research or maybe I should just break down and get the factory service manual.

OUKB is right. In my 8th generation Corolla - they are on the outside of the front seats. The air bag sensors are on the door pillar. Maybe that was what the sales person was suggesting.

Thanks for the feedback. Armed with this new knowledge, I can finally work on this detail without fearing airbag deployment.
