Thinking About Getting One Of These...

god damn nail in the tire on the drive into work this morning. right in the shoulder of the tire and to add insult to injury (it was already un-fixable) as the tire went flat the nail punctured the sidewall. snip! i won't be able to get a replacement on the wheel until tomorrow or friday morning when the tire comes in. i'm supposed to be driving this car to michigan friday night after grabbing my dad from the airport. we can always take the girlfriends dumpy lil 94 escort 4 door though.

my tire got sniping prince albert'd

Suckage. Pierced the shoulder and big enough to punch the sidewall - must have been a good sized nail.

Shoot, I got a flat from a freakin tooth pick once.

Thats why I have a full size spare so I wont be screwed like that again. Have it mounted on one of my original borbet wheels that is slightly bent so it does vibrate some at high speed but not bad like the other one that was bent worse, which is why I replaced them with two new borbets. Much better and safer than driving on a donut and certainly looks better too.

default_blink A toothpick!! Must have been one heck of a toothpick! Good idea on the full size spare - I was contemplating this as well, but the fit is too tight in the tire well. For a while, I just had one sitting in the trunk, just now needed to get into my trunk more often and hauling equipment and passengers - I need to find a better alternative.

i kept one with the geo as well, just in the trunk AND the donut spare. the celi though, the spare well is large enough in diameter to fit the 16" wheel with tire on it but depth is the issue. i need to measure and figure whats the widest tire i could fit on a 15" wheel and what width wheel and some other math. i have a feeling its some size combination that does not exist.

haha wikipedia article about spare tires has a french car that puts its spare under the hood ontop of the engine.

My 195/65/14 fits great with room to store the torque wrench and rags snug between the tire and the well, and the 2ton jack rests over the trunk cover without issue. You have 205/50/15's?

Yah a flat because of a freakin toothpick of all things royally had me ticked off that day. Crap like that always happens at the worst times. Then they had to replace a stud on top of that because they had been too rough with the impact wrench in the past which had me there much longer than I needed that day too. All because of a toothpick.

[edit]I should say my 195/60/14's used to fit great, since Im currently using 185/65/14's.

Weird - I'm running a 195/60R14 tire - and it just barely fits in the well. No obvious obstructions. If I just place a wheel in there, sans tire - the wheel (14x6) sticks up a good couple of inches. I'll play around with it a bit more - might try scraping out some of the asphalt sheeting they put in there.

new tire on today, much much better than being on noisy donut spare.

made a good hard stop from 50mph and the car stops straight as an arrow now, no more pivoting around the front left tire. also stops a good deal shorter. i have a suspicion that doing rear brakes with new rotors and the same pads as up front will help kill some of my nose dive and get it feeling even better. still havent taken the time to put the SS lines on. i'm going to spray the line fittings with lube and let them soak and keep spraying them, hopefully it'll all come apart like buttah.

Are you saying they coated the metal of the tire well to where the tire sits on the coating, or are you referring to the cover that sits over it? I just have a bare metal tire well with a thin board cover with carpet glued to the top so there's nothing in my trunk that could be scaped off for more room.

screw the EPA, i got 32.7 MPG coming back from lansing michigan cruising at 70 most of the way, in lift a couple times accelerating back onto and in with traffic.

S2000 antenna installed, hooray.

Yeah, my spare tire well has a thick asphalt coating on the sides (not continuous coating, but enought o be annoying) and most of the bottom is covered with the same material. I was planning to heat the stuff up and scrape it off this summer - just haven't gotten around to it.

That's pretty decent mileage for the 2ZZ-GE. Lift really sucks down gas. Have you noticed that some gasoline brands tend to give you more mileage than others? On my Matrix - if I fill up with BP Ultimate grade - I get a good 3-5 MPG increase vs other brands - consistently. Sunoco Ultra 94 and their 91 octane gives me the worse mileage - generally 3-5MPG lower than my usual average.

I was thinking about a shorty antenna vs the OEM whip variant. How was the install on the S2000 antenna - reception still pretty good?

i don't really listen to the radio, so i can't tell you. screwed right into place tighter than the stock antenna and AM and FM stations come in the same as before. from what i've read it works as well as the stock rod or slightly better. the radio probably plays a bigger role than the antenna, my dads taurus added nearly 50 miles to its FM radio reception just by swapping from the stock radio to a low end JVC.

i've been hitting the place on the corner on the way home, i don't even know what brand their gas is to be honest. its 93 octane and has upto 10% ethanol...thats all i could tell ya. the place is called RaceCo and seems to be a small local chain. i'll try some BP next time, theres one on the way home as well.

It seems like the engine starts up easier from cold than it does from hot. from cold in the morning or from cold at the end of the day it takes 1-2 cranks and starts right up. once its hot/warm and i start it it seems to take 3-5 cranks to start. is this normal for the 2zzge? i'll try a different brand of gas on the next few tanks to see if that helps it out any.

its been doing this since i had it, it may be normal. i don't know.

topped up with 1/2 tank BP 93 octane, when it runs through another 1/2 i'll fill up again and see how it does with nearly 100% BP fuel. i hate the BP pricing scheme, reg is 2.79, mid is 2.89 and premium is 3.03!

Looks Good! Yeah, premium gaslone pricing can be a pain sometimes - but got to feed the car the good stuff Hmm, so you see a little difference too with BP as well. Not sure why, BP is rated as a Top-Tier gasoline vendor - but seems to run pretty good in the 2ZZ-GE. No difference in the Corolla (1ZZ-FE) - so it has me stumped a bit.

well what i was using before was from a small local chain so who knows what it was and which refinery.

i redid the celica letter vinyl decals in retroreflective red default_smile now they glow at night when lit just like a liscence plate 'glows' or a street sign.

Cool idea. Did you cut them out yourself first or just stuck them on the emblem and trimmed them to fit?

i had a forum member make them for me, $8 for 2 sets of regular red and then $10 for the glowing red ones. the glowing red ones look awesome!

i also de-badged the TOYOTA from the back, going to try to pull the GTS off today. one of my front side markers is out due to a broke/rotten wire, i'll have to fix that at work since i don't have the right size wire or the correct type of crimps here.

Nice TRD bar! Looks sharp. Darker finishes are tough to keep clean and remove swirls from, finish looks excellent for OEM.

until you get really close, then it doesn't look so good. scored the bar for $106 shipped on ebay. default_smile i've been using some dupont teflon car wax and it really makes the toyota black pop and shine, but the stuff is hell to work with when it comes to buffing off, doing it by hand leaves blotches.
