something with a more colorful sky would have been much more ideal or a night shot of a well light and dimly lit area, but i was just playing around to see what i could get as an end result. the software i used was

http://qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/ it can really align photos very very well, i did that image without a tripod, just stabilizing it against an inverted flower pot.

another one i just did of a night scene from my balcony, turned the final brightness up very slightly and another small tweak.

Nice! Also, thanks for the link - going to check that out.

Being playing around with HDR as well - but in the commercial and research sense. Usual tools - either higher level languages (C#, C++), interpreted languages (IDL, Matlab) and Photoshop. Looks like an interesting app - can't have too many tool applications.

What I'd like to know is if there are any freeware programs that are good at stitching two or more photos to make pan shots where you can hardly even tell theyre stitched together? I have paintshop pro7 and picture it premium10, neither of which will do it far as I can tell.
