Fuel Tank Moisture Buildup And Drip

by mysterym, September 27, 2008

I just noticed my fuel tank is dripping slightly and there's a great deal of moisture on the back side of it. I'm thinking there might be a leak or crack in the fuel intake pipe or the gas tank itself. Any ideas as to how I should determine where the problem lies, is this a common issue? This is a 94.

I've looked through my haynes guide to repair but I still can't be certain about where the leak is, if it's patchable or whatever else.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like either the filler tube has a crack or leak, probably due to corrosion, or you have a leaky cut-off valve at the top of the tank. Won't really know for sure until you drop the tank. I assume you have verified that it is gasoline and not condensation or water run-off (ie. strong odor of gas)?

I haven't heard of leaking tanks on any of the Corolla generations - so probably not a common problem. Might try PMing Bikeman982 - he might have a better idea for a potential problem area, as he taken quite a few of this generation Corolla apart.
