Pulstar Spark Plugs

By twinky64, March 7, 2008

More hype than anything else. The "real" science behind the technology and aspects of its use are correct - but they stretch it a bit further to make it more marketable. Hotter spark = yes, equal better performance = maybe, in the right circumstances, better plug = need to wait and see. Engine performance takes more then just a hotter spark - hotter doesn't always equal better flame propogation. If a hotter spark was all that was needed - we'd all be running massive coils to pump up the juice to the plug. This company also made those capacitive discharge plugs some years ago - some people swear by them, some had nothing but problems - independant dyno tests show mixed results.

There was a poster on VVT-i.net that bought a set - one plug blew out after about a month of running. He though they did something - but it could also be that they were $25 a piece and tried to justify it to himself. Also, anytime you throw new plugs in the car - it will alwasy run "better" than with even lightly used plugs. Old school days - the used an "air gap" plug to do the same exact thing - only thing I would be worried about is the amount of EMI noise it will introduce to your electronics and added strain to the ignition components. He had them replaced - but opted to run OEM style plugs and sell the Pulstars.

IMO, better and more cost effective to buy 4-sets of $6 Iridium plugs and change them every 30K miles - than pick up a set of Pulstars.
