Was unable to confirm this, on the very new Corollas, there is a cleanable MAF sensor, but , on the 96 model, is there a similar sensor that can be cleaned .??

1996 Corolla is MAP based - 2000+ Corollas are the ones that use MAF. Cannot clean the MAP sensor, but you could try cleaning the throttle body up and check the PCV system - those tend to improve idle behavior dramatically.

You can also use carburator cleaner to help clean of stuck carbon deposits.
