Fuel and Temp Gauge Pegging

Guest yigo65

I have a 1992 Toyota Corolla. The problem I am having is with the fuel and temp gauge. They both peg out to the top. The thermostat is working as the fan kicks in when its hot. The little fuel idiot light works so I know when I'm running low. I tore the dash apart and everything seems fine and traced the wires the best I could down to the fuse box. I was unable to find anything. Just wondering if anyone has seen this problem before or can maybe throw a suggestion out. Thanks.

the fuel and thermostat guages use little coils of thin element wire that are curled around a dielectric strip (same kind of metal & principle used in indicators) and the hotter the coils make the wire, the more it bends, and thusly moves the fuel and thermostat indicators and in your case, pegging out.

I'd be looking at the dash again, and checking that everything was working correctly and that resistors and so on are to spec.

Perhaps it's something as minute as a resistor going open circuit?
