Ahoy !

Tonight I just bought a Toyota Corolla XLi. I need advice regarding the following topics :

1. Gear shifting : Should I use the 5th gear starting from this early time ? would this anyhow damage the gearbox ? ( My car has a manual gear )

2. Top speed : How and when ??

3. Preventive Maintenance ? When appropriate and needed ?

I highly appreciate your indespinsable pearlss of wisdom :-)

It is fine to use 5th gear. It is a overdrive gear tho, so only at higher speeds.

The basic rule for a new car is to be gental to it for 1000 miles. Be gental on the engine, brakes, and clutch and gear box. Lots of people have their own little rules on how a new engine should be broken in, but as long as you are nice to it, you will be okay.

I kept mine under 3500RPMs for the first 1000 miles and tried not to go over 4000RPMs untill I changed the oil at 3000 miles.

Engine and trans has to set.. so drive at different speeds.. Don't stay on one speed or gear... and ofcoruse.. don't drive VERY FAST or too HARSH....

Congratulations on your new car !!

Very happy for you!

Thanks a LOT for your indespensable advice, I appreciate it !

I'll take some pictures with the help of the little SE- K500i I have ( ~1.3 MP Camera not that pretty ) and post it here ..

The weather is HARSH these days @ Riyadh and I'll run-away to Taif ( SA resort and cool city besides Abha and others ).

Thanks again for the forum members Max , 4rnrlvr and gvr4ever default_biggrin

Tasharrafna, Lazy Frog! I would also like to see a photo of your Saudi Arabian Corolla. I saw several of them when I served in your country many years ago, but would like to see if there are any differences between SA Corollas and those sold in North America now. Welcome to the forum!

larry, did you guys base and fly out of Riyadh intl when you served there?

Nope, not me. I was a courier, flew in/out of all the U.S. bases in SA -- Riyadh, Al Kharj, Daharan mainly. I wasn't "based" anywhere in SA, I was just intransit. I was based at Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany and later at RAF Mildenhall, UK during that period.

we used those airports also when flying f-15 sorties during the gulf war, but that was in janes f-15 strike eagle...a great complicated simulator. default_laugh

Nice color! Looks similar to U.S./Canadian Rollas. No wheel covers, tho?

Are those back up sensors on the rear bumper?

The wheel covers are included and reside in rest at the back pack default_wink I'm traveling on my Rolla tomorrow ( 800+ Kilometers Journey ) and I don't have spare time to install them now !

Now THERE's a handy feature! I wonder if future U.S. spec Corollas will have that as an option?

Yeah, that is useful, but it got a feeling that North America is not gonna c it.
