Some Advice Needed For My 2004 Corolla

by zico, July 5, 2005

Hi all

Decided to make my first post today, even though I've visited many times.

I need some advice on my 2004 Corolla.

Here I go:

Regarding the cabin/pollen filter:

Is it easy to change it yourself?

How much does a filter go for in Canada?

Is it necessary to change it as many times as Toyota says on it's maintenance schedule?

Regaring spark plus:

My car has 70 000 kms, when should I change them?

What plugs should I get?

Do I need to get OEMs?

Regarding a bug shield:

Where is the best place to buy one?

How much does one go for?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.

you need phillips screw driver, instruction in your car manual,,

under glove compartment.

filter is very expensive and gets dirty very fast.

iridium 180k replacement. ihave 105k on originals.

You really don't need the Phillips to remove the stops.

Just open the glove compartment, squeeze the sides to let it move down. Leave the stops alone.

You've got plenty of room to reach in and open the filter cover.

Two minute job

They really need to be changed even more often than factory specs in some areas such as my dusty NC neighborhood. If they clog, windshield will fog. I clean filter at self-service car wash with power vacuum at least once before replacing. Spread the pleats apart and vacuum the dirty side of the filter. Note the arrow telling you how to reinsert it.

Have found them on ebay and at www.1sttoyotaparts.com for much less than dealer. Also understand some aftermarket parts houses will now stock a replacement. Check around.

Ripoff at dealer.
