2000 Corolla Drl Module

by CorollaLE2000, June 16, 2005

I would like to install a toggle switch in my 2000 Corolla so that I can switch the headlight mode between AUTO/DRL (the way it is shipped) and MANUAL. I have the TSB from Toyota (EL011-00) that says how to do it, although I don't want to disable the system completely. http://geocities.com/mistertwo@sbcglobal.n...00/El011-00.htm

I would know where to start if I could only find the little module I need to clip the wire for. What does the thing look like and where do I find it?

Check out Vamp's DIY on the DRL. He also followed the Toyota service outline on the project - but modified it to switched.

Thanks for the info. I guess I had been looking in the wrong place (I'd assumed that since the Twilight Sentinel was on the driver side, the module would be on that side as well).

Okay, I have the wiring diagram from the Haynes manual and I've read Vamp's website. What I don't know is how much current is drawn through this pin when the switch is closed. Anyone know? Wouldn't want to use a wire that's too thin and have it overheat.

Although the pin is connected to a 10A fuse, it appears to be little more than something that tells the DRL main relay whether the ignition switch is in the ON position (12V applied to pin) or OFF/ACC position (floating). If this is the case, I would expect it to have a very high impedance to ground, so that I could get away with very thin wires.
