I did not forget, I simply thought it fit your previous comment about the nature of the revolution being tied to the nature of the regime being overthrown. I was not overlooking the reign of terror.

Socialist? OK. I won't get started on the glories of National Socialism here. default_wink

OK...I appreciate your comment, you are correct, the bloodthirsty monarchy was replaced by a bloodthirsty democracy!

As far as national socialism goes, despite the label, it was never socialism. Hitler's biggest supporters were the industrialists who wanted (a) Jewish property, ( free labor, and © no unions. At first it was mainly © but they sure didn't object to (a) and (default_cool. Including I might add Ford.

I'll also point out that the name of an organization is o indication of what it does. Lots of "citizen's groups" that are just marketing agencies. Nevadans for Fuel Economy Reform (or a group with a similar name) is Detroit automakers. Al Franken had a nice list somewhere.

Including I might add Ford.

Understood.

For those who have pointed out H. Ford's ties to Adolph - since this is a Toyota forum

Care to comment on the various Japanese manufacturer's use of slave labor during WWII? I'm not sure about Toyota, but I believe Mitsubishi used slave labor under death camp conditions.

I fairly sure none of these corporations has never paid reparations to POW's, and I am fairly certain that current US policy prevents veterans for suing for damages that were incurred in forced war effort labor (illegal under Geneva Convention). Seems like some (or one) of the German companies (BMW??) recently disbursed a nominal damage settlement fee to some forced labor survivors (but I forget the details).

What's the story about that down under? I'm certain a bunch of your folks went through that too (?). I know our friends from GB did, not to mention the Bataan death march.

BTW-

Where is Al Franken these days? I thought he was to start up a radio show and take America by storm?? I'm certain there's no trouble finding sponsors default_huh

Also Many are confused about what PETA stands for. Down here it's:

People who Eat Tasty Animals. default_biggrin

Hi Costello:

Another horrible accident caused by an SUV …

___First off, did this knucklehead need an SUV to do that? He could have just as easily done the same stunt in a Geo Metro or heaven forbid, a Toyota Corolla! Secondly, ~ 110 people died in the US in car related accidents on Friday, January 23, 2004. Do you have 109 more SUV related deaths you would care to link for us for that particular day? How about 50? I would be surprised if you could find 5.

Hello Wayne -

In OZ we had a problem with changi, a POW camp in Singapore. But we also held Japanese POWs, they broke out and we slaughtered them like we murdered our aborigines.

All forgotten now, Toyota finished number 1 in the 2003 sales race, ahead of GM and Ford. In our Anzac day march (our version of Veterens day), plenty of mercs are used as parade vehicles.

I beleive the German government paid repatriations to the Jews in 1955, the gave a huge some of money to Israel.

The German government did make some reparations; individual companies did not. Amusingly, Ford was paid by the American government for damage to their factories from Allied bombing - when those factories were making German war equipment.

Not sure about Japan and reparations. They didn't try to exterminate and/or torture everyone who didn't look like them, talk like them, think like them...or just people they didn't like for one reason or another.

I'm not sure that the Filipinos who experienced Nippon occupation will agree with you on that. Maybe 'worked to death' doesn't qualify.

Oh well, back to SUV's -

I heard that Toyota sales topped Ford (or are projected too). default_cool

if anyone saw 'the last samurai' they'd know that the japanese would rather kill themselves then surrender to their enemy (a shame thing or something). Thus POWs (who were surrenderers) were treated badly because they obviously didn't share the same view. In WW2 the japanese shelled newcastle and sank some ships in sydney harbour. But true they didn't have an exact 'final solution' like germany did.
