2004 Corolla Making Noise

Guest Barb

I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla, 29,000km. I've only had it for 2 months and it has just started making a noise that comes from the front right tire area. It's like a humming sound (similar to windshield washer sound) and happens when I'm idling or when I change from Park to Reverse or Drive..... It only happens when the car iis warm and has been driven for 1/2 hour.

Thanks

Barb

Could be the belt tensioner or contact with something. I'd check the surface of the belt for major cracks or signs of debris contamination or glazing. Also look a the pulleys and make sure they are clean. When the car is running - look at the belt and see if tracks correctly.

Could also be any one of the engine control sensors, valves, and emissions equipment - sometimes the sound's origin is not where it appears to eminate from. Noises like these are particularly hard to track down unless you hear it in another Corolla or get lucky and catch it when it happens.
