2000 Corolla 60k Mile Maintenance

by misterken, February 10, 2005

Wife's 2000 Corolla CE just hit 60,000 miles.

What would you suggest for maintenance?

I've thought of:

- changing coolant with thermostat (never has been

changed)

- changing automatic transmission fluid

- air filter

- check brakes

I'm assuming the car has iridium plugs, a timing chain

and the fuel filter is in the gas tank, so that stuff

is ok.

What else? Am I missing something?

Call your local Toyota stealer. They will give you the exact run-down on what gets done at 60k. 60k and 30k service are identical. Or check your owner's manual.

In any case:

Inspect (and gap if necessary) your spark plugs. They're iridium so no replacement necessary until 120k.

Change your oil and filter.

Change your air filter.

Rotate your tires.

Flush and refill coolant system. You don't need to replace your thermostat unless it's malfunctioning.

Replace trans fluid (and differential fluid on an auto).

Inspect brake system.

Check under the hood and top off fluids as required.

Inspect exhaust system.

That covers all the things your stealership will charge at least $300 for.

I've found this section off the toyota.ca site to be helpful in drawing up a maintenance schedule (as my owners manual isn't very clear on what needs to be done)

http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WW...&wolog=dlrMMenu

If you plug in lower kms (starting at say 30k) you'll see what you've missed along the way too.

I just realized that all the mileage on this site is listed as kilometres, so you might want to check toyota.com

Good luck!

Just follow your scheduled maintainence program...toyota.com has it for you

Yup. Thanks.

Oil change and tire rotation is already done.

Looks like I have these left:

- Change your air filter.

- Flush and refill coolant system. You don't need to replace your thermostat unless it's malfunctioning.

- Replace trans fluid (and differential fluid on an auto).

- Inspect brake system.

Maybe your pcv value. Which is a cheap 2 dollar item, and less then 5 minutes to replace.

I think you are correct on these.

Someone above mentioned regapping spark plugs. It is a nono on wire platinum or iridium plugs.

You also mentioned changing differential fluid. Is it really separate from auto tranny fluid in corolla?
