Nearly 1 million (over 900,000) vehicles are being recalled due to faulty airbags.

The models that need to have their airbags replaced are the following:

  • 2010-2016 Toyota 4Runner

  • 2003-2013 Toyota Corolla

  • 2009-2010 Toyota Corolla Matrix

  • 2004-2005 Toyota RAV4

  • 2002-2007 Toyota Sequoia

  • 2011-2013 Toyota Sienna

  • 2003-2006 Toyota Tundra

  • 2007-2012 Toyota Yaris

  • 2008-2012 Scion xB

  • 2007-2012 Lexus ES350

  • 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F

  • 2010-2017 Lexus GX460

  • 2002-2010 Lexus SC430

  • 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350

  • 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C

The issue this time is the driver and/or passenger Takata airbags may propel metal pieces upon deployment which can result in a serious injury or death. They will need to be taken in to get replaced with a safer non-Takata airbag.

That's a lot of airbags, are they staging it out or doing it all at once?

I got the ones on my 2009 Matrix XRS changed out all at once - the dealership told me that they were getting in small shipments pretty much daily to keep up.  They actually changed the front passenger airbag (recalled) as well as the side airbags and curtain airbags (not on the recall - but was in a separate TSB that came out after the recall for certain VIN ranges).
