Just Turned 160,000 Miles

trap

I am getting close to 180,000 miles and am wondering if I need to change the timing belt??

The manual recommends preventative maintenance to change it every 60K miles.

Bike,

my general rule is to change it out every 100k miles.

car companies say 60k miles (100k km), so that they have insurance before teh belt breaks.

i had a buddy (gf's brother) that was an engineer at a belt company. he said that belts were designed to last up approx 200k km, but may last upto 300k km (200k miles). his suggestion was to change it at 100k miles (160k km) to be on the safe side.

my 98 is ready for a new belt (& water pump) too. 200k miles.

sorry, i just realized that i am consistant in my use of km/miles. live in the us, but deal with metric a lot...

Well, if the belt was changed at 120K (miles), then I should change it by 220K?

I have just gone over 180,000 miles and it should be close to change time.

Maybe after I get another car to use while I work on it.

I just turned over 182,000 miles.

Had to change the alternator - everything else still good.

My tires are starting to wear and I may need to change them after another 10k miles.

Still have the same timing belt. Hope it lasts forever!

I have gone over 186,000 miles and have not changed the timing belt yet.

I may need to change the driver's side drive shaft, since the CV joint is making a knocking noise.

More to follow.

See other post about front end noise.

Driver's side driveshaft changed - noise is gone.
