I'm having little success trying to find a decent used replacement transmission for my 1993 Corolla. Are any of the 3-speed automatics from the newer generations compatible with the 3-speed auto from my 6th gen? Or how big a job is it to switch to a manual tranny? Thanks much for any advice you can give this shade-tree-challenged mechanic.

There are many automatic transmissions available for your 1993 all over USA if you check here:

http://www.car-part.com/

Is yours a 4AFE 1.6, or 7AFE 1.8? Converting to manual would be even harder and more complex than from manual to auto.

Maybe time to trade up. Transmission problems can be quite expensive and time consuming, especially for the novice. Not to mention frustrating.

Thanks for the link. My transmission is a 4AFE. Also, my Corolla is a 1992 (not a '93---oops).
